How to Plan the Perfect Engagement on a Budget

It’s that time of year again- happy couples who have made it through Christmas (and survived each other’s families) may have decided to pop the question and ask the person they love to marry them.

Perfect Engagement

Perfect Engagement on a Budget

You may be sitting down right now and thinking about how to ask your special someone to spend the rest of their life with you. And one thing is for certain: you want your engagement to be special. In a time when it seems like engagements are becoming more extravagant than weddings, we’ve put together this list to tell you how to plan the perfect engagement on a budget. And you may have already guessed the theme. It doesn’t matter how much you spend on an engagement, as long as you show the person you care.

You already have memories together.

What is it that you and your significant other like to do most together? Are you both really into movies? Do you love going to the museum or popular art galleries around town? Whatever your favorite activities are, highlight what the two of you like to do together. This way you can use existing locations without having to pay for a fancy reservation at the hottest new restaurant. You can even set up a scavenger hunt that goes from one special location to the next, ending in a proposal.

Surprise them with a new activity.

Maybe you and your significant other don’t really ever eat at home. Try a romantic dinner at home followed by a long stroll and you popping the question. Or, maybe you don’t ever go out to eat. Pick a restaurant within your budget and take your sweetheart there. The key to a good engagement is doing something thoughtful and often surprising to show the love of your life that they are the one that you want to be with. By doing something out of the ordinary, you can make them feel special without breaking the bank.

Use nature to your advantage.

Renting a venue or space to pop the question can be pricey. We suggest using the green spaces around you to your advantage. Set up a romantic picnic at a park that you often visit. Or, take dinner outside to the backyard under twinkling lights. If you add special touches, like a scrapbook of your relationship, or a heartfelt letter listing the reasons why this person is the only one for you, your engagement will be a day you remember for the rest of your lives. By moving your proposal outside, you let the beauty of nature take over. You can also have a secret photographer on hand to catch the tearful moment of saying, “Yes!”

Ask your friends and family for help.

An impromptu or planned engagement party that takes place right after the engagement is a great way to get friends and family involved. Reach out to you and your significant other’s parents, siblings, and friends so that they can be present after you’ve popped the question and they’ve said yes. This can also lessen the burden of cost, if people are willing to help you pay for the party. If not, consider doing something simple. Invite everyone over to your home and cater with bar-b-que or simple desserts. This gives the people closest to you the ability to share your excitement without costing a fortune.

No matter how you intend to ask the love of your life to marry you, remember that the most important thing is your love story. If you take your time and pay attention to the details, you can plan something truly wonderful that the two of you will never forget. We wish all you future engaged couples the best in 2018 and happy proposals besides.
