Keep the party going even after the wedding reception!

As a relatively new trend in the wedding world, the after-party custom is still not regulated by any “etiquette rules” – which makes it a lot more exciting, but somewhat confusing as well. What are some of the most important things to know about planning a reception after-party your guests will remember? Read on and find out more.

  • The style. There are three main types of after-parties. One is where you simply meet with the guests at a bar, after the reception and they pay for their drinks. Another one is where you rent a separate room in a bar and another one is where you have a fully-organized second party (with or without the entertainment and all the other reception elements). Furthermore, please keep in mind that the location of the after-party should be as close as possible to that of the reception, so that neither you, nor your guests waste too much time in between the two parties.
  • The invitations. Since there are no rules of etiquette here, feel free to invite your guests to the after-party either by word of mouth or by including a smaller invitation with the “official suite”. Also, if you have a wedding website, you can invite the guests through the website too.
  • Drinks, food and décor. You decide who pays for the drinks and for the food – you can pay for them yourself or you can split the bill with your parents. However, we highly recommend that you choose different types of food, drinks and décor for the after-party, so that you surprise your guests with something new.
